Welcome to Friends of Portswood Primary School
Friends of Portswood Primary School are a group of parents and carers who put on events and raise money for the school. Our aim has been to provide social and educational opportunities that all the children can benefit from whilst having fun.
Our mission is to :
- Enhance relationships between the staff, parents, community and others associated with the school
- Arrange events and activities that raise funds for equipment and projects in school to enhance the education of the pupils
- Organise social events for the enjoyment of the pupils, their families and the wider community.
In the past the group has run things like the summer and winter fayres, school discos and raised money for the school by having cake and book sales for example.
Please look at our events page for updates and plans. We are really open to people coming up with new ideas, so don't be shy, get in touch! We will send out further information about events and ideas through the school newsletters, or on posters on the school gates, or in the blue noticeboard near the entrance to the lower school.
We really need volunteers to help us out for the events, (to design and print posters, to help spread the word, to help on the day), so any help or contribution would be hugely appreciated. If anybody is interested in volunteering then please contact us via our website or through the school office. You can leave any messages you have for us in the school drop box at the office reception. We need you!!!
For the last year FoPPS has been working with a new committee. We are having regular meetings every 3-4 weeks as a committee in the dining hall, Mr Howie is our lead liaison with the school, and he is regularly attending our meetings. If anyone wishes to attend you are very welcome to come along, you can just turn up on the day, or if you would like more information please just ask or email the committee.
All the money you have raised and contributed to will go back into enhancing the school for the children.
In 2017 we were really proud to have purchased a new music amplifier for the school.
We have made a commitment to spending about £50 per year on new books for each of the junior and infant libraries. We spent an initial £150 last year to initiate the idea and have already spent a further £100 2017/18 academic year.
We funded the school disco in December 2017 which was a great success with lots of dancing and fun for the children.
In March 2018 we funded a science show by Ian Dunne, who some of you may remember from years ago when he visited Portswood Primary School. He also performs his shows at the Southampton University Science Day. http://www.doscience.co.uk/ .
Each year FoPPS has paid for the year 6 school leavers books full of photos of their year group and friends, this year's book cost ~£390. This is a priceless and lovely way for them to remember their time at Portswood Primary School.
We hope to spend the money we raise this year on providing soft furnishings for the new school library which opened in September 2018.
We would also like to raise money for the school playground areas, musical instruments, friendship stop, etc. This would be a long term project, any ideas and contributions are welcome.
